United Way Health Committee Makes Progress
Monday March 1, 2010
After meeting monthly since Fall of 2009, a United Way health study committtee is ready to solicit public comment.
Bruce Abels, retired Saddle Creek CEO, has been chairing the committee that is surveying current community efforts to improve public health in Polk County. The focus of the committee is to find how United Way programming can support declared community goals.
Dr. Daniel Haight, Polk County Health Department, has participated in the process along with representatives of Polk's hospitals, medical clinics, and other interested citizens.
The committee is planning a larger community forum that will include agencies, non-profits and health service providers. The forum will share community goals from current Polk County planning documents and solicit partnerships to improve standards of public health in Polk County.
An end result of the process will be to re-align United Way funding of health related programming to support community goals. Debbie Wilson is the United Way staff contact for this project at debbie.wilson@uwcf.org.
