United Way Kicks Off 2010 Pacesetter Campaign
Wednesday June 30, 2010
The 2010 United Way of Central Florida (UWCF) Pacesetter Campaign is in full swing after Wednesday’s breakfast event hosted by Polk State College (PSC). Fifty-one organizations and partner agencies will participate in the summer campaign that runs from June 30 through August 20, 2010. These organizations run model campaigns to set the pace for other companies to follow and create momentum for the community’s annual United Way Campaign.
After breakfast and a brief video, Jerome Ferson, publisher of The Ledger and 2010 campaign chair, discussed plans and strategies for the upcoming year. He emphasized the importance of CEO support and involvement and announced the $9 million campaign goal.
Dr. Eileen Holden, 2010 pacesetter chair and president of Polk State College, thanked everyone for their participation and announced the pacesetter goal of $605,000. She also invited pacesetter organizations to celebrate their success at the campaign kickoff event scheduled for August 31.
Owen Heatwole, QMI and Heather Tchipanov, GEICO, both recipients of outstanding coordinator awards for 2009, shared best practices from their successful campaigns. They emphasized the importance of an involved coordinator, communication with staff, special events and making the campaign a fun experience.
Finally, Dr. Holden closed the event by encouraging the pacesetter companies to provide the momentum for a successful campaign in 2010.
