Ending Hunger in Polk, Hardee & Highlands Counties

By convening government, nonprofit and faith-based partnerships, UWCF is increasing access to healthy foods and working to eliminate hunger and food insecurity for children and families throughout Polk, Hardee and Highlands counties.

In Polk County

28,821 families with children live below the Household Survival Budget for Polk County residents. These hardworking families do not earn enough money to pay typical rent, utilities or childcare and, even with food stamps, cannot afford to feed their families three meals a day.

In Polk County, 95,800, 15% of the population, are unsure they will have enough food to feed their families three meals a day.

32,470 children in Polk County do not know if food will be available when they are hungry.

In Hardee & Highlands Counties

3,530 people, 12.9% of Hardee County’s population live with food insecurity. 1,840 are children.

The Highlands County Food Insecurity Rate is 14,810, or 15%; 4,340 are children.
