Sun Safety

Instructions:

1. Ask your child if they know anything about how to stay safe in the sun.
2. Be sure to cover the following during your conversation:
   • Sunscreen
   • Hats
   • Shade
   • Drinking lots of water
   • Wearing Sunglasses
3. Make a sun visor using a paper plate.
   • Cut almost a half-moon shape (see video for example)
   • Allow your child time to decorate.
   • Put holes on each end and secure with string or yarn.

Extension:

1. Talk about water safety.
2. Be sure to talk about the following:
   • Never swim alone
   • Always use floaties or water wings if you do not know how to swim.
   • Don’t run around the pool
   • Look before you jump
   • No diving in shallow water
   • Practice holding breathes as you would underwater.
   • If you have the opportunity, go swimming and put these tips into action.
