Family Fundamentals is a collaboration of organizations committed to strengthening families and our community by increasing access and awareness to resources and services.
Spearheaded by United Way of Central Florida and founded by Carol Barnett of Publix Charities, this Success By 6 parent resource center is a warm, welcoming place where parents and other family members come to access information, support services, and the tools they need to be the best parents they can be.
Agencies offer services on-site to provide a one-stop opportunity for parents. Parents come for one service or class and return for others.
The center is located at 109 N. Kentucky Ave in Lakeland, above the Explorations V Children’s Museum.
There are daily school readiness classes in the model classroom. Other current classes include “Great Beginnings,” “Once Upon a Time,” “Twogether Time,” and “Let’s Move Twogether.” Family Fundamentals has a parent resource room, children’s library, playroom, computer access, and adult classrooms/meeting rooms. Partners provide evaluations, counseling, casework, and many other services.
Seven Reasons to Stop By:
- We provide greater access to services. We have thirty-seven community agencies that partner to provide services to children and their families in a one-stop opportunity at Family Fundamentals everyday. We serve all people, from all walks of life, and all socioeconomic classes.
- We work to strengthen families. We provide parents, grandparents, caregivers and guardians with all the resources and support they need to be the best parents they can be!
- We promote family literacy. We provide special events to promote the importance of reading to children beginning at birth.
- We know the importance of early childhood education. We provide different types of parenting classes on-site. We have classes for children ages birth to five.
- We provide a warm and welcoming place for parents and other family members to access information, support services, and parenting tools while they have fun!
- We offer many ideas and activities to promote the brain development and family relationships children need to enter school ready to succeed. Recurring activities for parents and children include: “Great Beginnings” for infants, “Once Upon a Time” for one year olds, “Twogether Time” and “Let’s Move Twogether” for two year olds, and daily classes for children aged three to five years.
- We provide developmental evaluations, counseling, casework, and many other services.
