United Way of Central Florida kicked off its 2025-2026 campaign with a vibrant and inspiring event at the Bartow Civic Center on Thursday, August 14. The venue was packed with community leaders, elected officials, and passionate supporters, all united by a shared commitment to building a stronger, more resilient Central Florida.
The afternoon began with a warm welcome from United Way President & CEO Christina Criser Jackson, who celebrated the power of collective action and the transformative impact of workplace campaigns. Her message was clear: “United is the Way” to a thriving community.
Campaign Co-Chairs Weymon Snuggs and Greg Littleton energized the crowd with reflections on United Way’s legacy and its bold new brand refresh. Their leadership set the tone for a lively trivia competition that saw eight teams battling it out in a tie-breaker round, showcasing their knowledge of United Way’s mission, milestones, and impact.
The event also featured heartfelt stories from community partners, including TJ Wright, CEO of the YMCA of West Central Florida, who shared his journey and the life-changing role United Way programs played in his development. Representative Jennifer Kincart Jonsson highlighted the importance of engaging young professionals and fostering a culture of philanthropy in the workplace.
A highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of the 2024 Campaign Awards, recognizing outstanding organizations and individuals who went above and beyond in their support of United Way:
- Small Business Campaign Champion: Sheena Banker and the Aerospace Center for Excellence
- Medium Business Campaign Champion: Debbie Burdett and the Early Learning Coalition of Polk County
- Large Business Campaign Champion: Omar Barba and C&S Wholesale Grocers
- Campaign Coordinators of the Year: David Palmer and Mae Goding
- Spirit of Central Florida Award: Bank of Central Florida
The event concluded with networking, refreshments, and a celebration of the community’s shared commitment to making a difference. Special thanks to Citizens Bank & Trust for sponsoring the reception and Spath Jewelers for sponsoring the event.
As the campaign begins, United Way of Central Florida invites everyone to get involved, give generously, and lead by example. Together, we can build a future where every individual can thrive—because United is the Way.
