Look on your phone or computer at some different types of animals
Leopard
Giraffe
Lion
Polar Bear
Elephant
Zebra
Antelope
Any other wild animals your child wants to look at pictures of for this activity
As you look at the different animals, talk about where they live. What habitat they are in?
See if your child can guess.
Make a paper plate mask or many masks of different wild animals. Allow your child to create the eyes, nose, mouth, ears, etc. for their animals on the paper plate. Have your child “decorate” their mask to make their unique animal. Depending on the child, an adult may need to cut out the eyes on the paper plate. Attach strings or paper to mask to secure around the child’s head.
Extension:
Parents make your best effort to draw 2 large polar bears standing up tall. Make one bear tall and one short. (Doesn’t have to be perfect art, but we want the children to be able to measure them).
Use paperclips, coins or anything small you may have as a measuring tool. (You will need enough to extend the height of each drawing)
First, be sure to model for your child how to use these items to measure. You will line them up from bottom to top then count how many paperclips or coins tall your bears are.
See which bear is taller and which one is shorter.
Wild animal search:
Look in your yard to see what wild animals may live there. (Squirrels, birds, possums, etc.)
