Day of Caring 2024
376 volunteers across Polk, Highlands and Hardee County came together to serve nonprofit organizations on Friday, April 19.
A long-standing tradition, this Day of Caring gives United Way donors a chance to connect with the organizations that they support in a tangible way. Projects ranged from campus beautification and building to compiling books for the ReadingPals participants and everything in between.
With 273 volunteers in Highlands County, this day of service has become quite the community effort. View the Highlands News-Sun Article.
Heartland Horses put in the request for a Day of Caring project for shelter space for their horses. The agency did not have any of the supplies but did have a blueprint of what they wanted. Community volunteer and Advisory Board Member, Chad Warrick, figured the amount of lumber and hardware cost. He graciously offered to cover part of the cost and worked with Bagwell Lumber to provide the lumber and hardware.
Day of Caring falling on National Volunteer week was no coincidence.
