Making a Sandwich

Instructions:

Work with your child to create an ingredient list.

• Ask your child what ingredients are needed (provide support for items they may miss)
• Make a list by writing down each ingredient
  • Be sure to read the list back to your child
• Ask your child to help you figure out what to do first, second, third, etc.
  • Under your list of ingredients write out the instructions
    • Example:
      1. First: Get 2 slices of bread
      2. Second: Using knife get peanut butter and spread it on one piece of bread
    • Continue with this pattern and be sure to read it back to your child after you write it out
• Use the list to gather all the ingredients together.
• Follow the instructions you wrote and encourage your child to make their own sandwich.

Game extension:

Talk to your child about how the sandwich is whole and is a square. What will happen when we cut it into half. Depending on which way it is cut it is now two rectangles or two triangles.
