Instructions:
- Tell your child that today you will be making up your own story.
- Start them off by opening the story. You can use phrases like:
- Once upon a time there was …
- A long, long time ago in a land far, far away …
- Once a little girl/boy who had magical powers …
- Be creative and have fun with it.
- Encourage them to come up with what happens next.
- Try keeping it at 2-3 sentences per turn as you switch off adding to the story.
- Allow your child the opportunity to make the ending of the story.
Extension:
- You can choose to dictate and write down the story as you go along making it up together.
- Once you have completed, go back and read it to your child.
- Encourage them to make pictures for their story.
- Put it together to create your own book.
