Sun Safety - United Way of Central Florida
Materials needed:
- Crayons, colored pencils or markers
- Paper plate
- Scissors
- Hole puncher
- String
- Goldfish (optional)
Instructions:
- Ask your child if they know anything about how to stay safe in the sun.
- Be sure to cover the following during your conversation:
- Sunscreen
- Hats
- Shade
- Drinking lots of water
- Wearing Sunglasses
- Make a sun visor using a paper plate.
- Cut almost a half-moon shape (see video for example)
- Allow your child time to decorate.
- Put holes on each end and secure with string or yarn.
Extension:
- Talk about water safety.
- Be sure to talk about the following:
- Never swim alone
- Always use floaties or water wings if you do not know how to swim.
- Don’t run around the pool
- Look before you jump
- No diving in shallow water
- Practice holding breathes as you would underwater.
- If you have the opportunity, go swimming and put these tips into action.
