Local Leader and Businesses are Hosting Events to Raise Funds to Help Fund Increased Needs in the Community
Inspired to engage the community, Board Member and Inspirational Speaker Troy C. Smith is hosting a community-wide talent show at Florida Southern College Branscomb Auditorium on March 12. After years of hosting talent shows for GEICO, you won’t want to miss this! Details
Nearly 50% of the population in Central Florida falls in the “ALICE” category; Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed. This population is working but still struggles to meet their family’s basic needs. They often don’t qualify for government assistance but don’t have enough resources to pay rent, utilities, child care and keep food on the table.
At United Way of Central Florida, our vision is to unite our community and empower everyone to achieve their full potential. Community members hosting events, businesses giving back and donors help make that vision a reality. Our funded programs fill a gap in service and empower individuals to improve their lives.
“We are so lucky to live in a community with leaders like Troy who are willing to step up and work to make a difference in people’s lives,” said Ileana Kniss, UWCF Chief Development and Marketing Officer. “The money raised at this events will go a long way in making our community a more equitable place to live.”
Additionally, a few businesses are giving back by hosting days or times where a portion of the proceeds will be donated to United Way. Don’t miss visiting:
· Concord Coffee (Lakeland), March 15
· Haven Coffee (Winter Haven), March 23
· Swan Brewing (Lakeland), March 28-29
And lastly, foodies and budding mixologists will not want to miss the Mixology Class Fundraiser at Cob & Pen on March 28. Details
