Master Teachers provide intense on-the-job training for childcare paraprofessionals. They work side-by-side for 160 hours to model and practice skills consistent with accreditation standards established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Daily workshops and activities help to form appropriate practices in the areas of behavior management, learning environments, interaction, lesson planning, age-appropriate activities, parent communication and more.
The childcare teachers improve their skills in the reality of their own classroom, with the assistance of a trusted mentor. Teachers can earn up to 45 in-service hours which meet annual licensing requirements within the normal hours of their work week. Each site may receive materials valued up to $625 to also assist in improving their school. The Master Teacher program is offered to childcare sites at no cost to them, thanks to Publix Super Markets Charities.
