United Way of Central Florida is proud to announce that United Way Worldwide has recognized Lakeland-based Publix Super Markets, Inc. and Publix Super Markets Charities with the #1 Leading Corporate Partner, President’s Circle Award—the highest honor given to a corporate partner for exceptional commitment to community impact and philanthropic leadership.
This prestigious recognition highlights Publix’s exceptional contributions to the United Way network, including a remarkable $52.7 million raised in 2024 through associate giving and corporate matching, including $2 million in disaster response support. Publix’s dedication to improving lives and strengthening communities exemplifies the spirit of corporate citizenship that the LCP program seeks to honor.
Publix was recognized during the Together We Thrive Global United Way Conference held in Orlando this week, where leaders from across the globe gathered to celebrate innovation, collaboration, and impact in the nonprofit sector. During the event, United Way presented John Doran, Executive Director of Publix Super Markets Charities, with the President’s Circle Award, honoring Publix’s top global ranking among corporate partners.
Publix Super Markets is a company whose commitment to community engagement and philanthropic leadership is unmatched. Publix Founder, George W. Jenkins, affectionately known as “Mr. George,” was the first Publix donor to United Way, and his giving spirit continues to be woven into the company’s culture. Though Publix operates primarily in the Southeast, its contributions have supported over 130 local United Ways. Since 2019, Publix has held the distinction of being United Way’s #1 corporate partner globally.
“United Way is the only organization that Publix supports through associate payroll deductions,” said John Doran, Executive Director of Publix Super Markets Charities. “This allows our associates to directly support their neighbors, and we’re proud to have over 10,000 leadership donors participating in this program.”
He added, “We support United Way because you all are the most effective and efficient way to support the many local nonprofits in the communities we serve.”
“Publix has long been a cornerstone of generosity and community engagement,” said Christina Criser Jackson, President and CEO of United Way of Central Florida. “This recognition is a testament to the enduring philanthropic legacy of Mr. George, whose belief in giving back continues to inspire Publix associates and leadership alike. Their unwavering support and collaborative spirit have made a profound difference in the lives of countless individuals and families across our region and beyond.”
