Instructions:
Prior to introducing this activity to your child, you are going to need to do a little prep. (we made these for the Cheerio Counting activity, so you may have your leftover from then).
- Create your number cards
- Make as many as you see fit for your child.
- Also consider their capabilities. Some children may need to start with 1-5 first, and some children may be ready to work on much larger numbers.
- You will give your child a hand full of cotton balls and tell them you’ll be working on counting with them.
- Show them the number cards you made.
- Let them know that each circle represents one cotton ball so that is where they will put them.
- Once they have filled in their number cards, encourage them to go back and count them again.
- You could see if they can count how many total cotton balls there are on the page.
Extension:
Using cotton balls for other activities such as:
-
- Make a sheep by gluing cotton balls onto a piece of paper.
- Make a cloud by gluing cotton balls onto a cloud shape.
- Sponge paint with cotton balls
