Pets

Instructions:

1. Ask your child: What animals would make good pets?
2. Look on your phone or computer at some different types of animals
   • Birds
   • Fish
   • Reptiles
   • Rodents
   • Any other types of animals your child lists as a good pet…
3. Now, out of those animals discussed, ask your child which one they would like to have as a pet of their own?
   • Write down your child’s responses to the following:
     • What type of pet?
     • What would you name it?
     • What would it need to eat?
     • Where would it sleep?
     • How would you keep it clean?
     • Does it need anything special to survive? (heat lamp, water, cage, etc.)

4. Pretend play:
   1. Pretend you are that animal living in your house.
   2. Set up everything you’d need to live there and survive.

Extension:

Make your own pet puzzle.

1. 1. Encourage your child to draw their favorite pet or pets. Color and decorate.
   2. Cut the picture into several pieces (but not too small) in order to make a puzzle.
   3. Encourage your child to put their pet puzzle together.
