Tell your child that today you will be practicing clapping syllables.
If you did the name syllable activity, ask your child if they can recall the syllables in their name. Practice together a couple of times.
Ask your child to pick 8-10 toys.
Gather them all together where you are going to complete the activity together.
Pick a toy and say its name. Say it slowly and encourage your child to listen to the sounds in the word.
Clap it out (see video for example)
Go through each toy and say it slowly then clap it out together. Count how many syllables are in the name for each toy.
Extension:
As you go throughout the day and week, encourage your child to think about how many syllables are in different things that you may already be doing together. For example:
If you are cooking dinner, you can encourage your child to help you figure out the syllables in the food items you will be eating that night.
