Success By 6: Family Fundamentals
Family Fundamentals, A Success By 6 parent Resource center, is a collaboration of organizations committed to strengthening families and our community by increasing access and awareness to resources and services.
Spearheaded by United Way of Central Florida and founded by Carol Jenkins Barnett of Publix Super Markets Charities, this Success By 6 parent resource center is a warm, welcoming place where parents and other family members come to access information, support services, and the tools they need to be the best parents they can be.
Located at 109 N. Kentucky Avenue in downtown Lakeland, above Explorations V Children’s Museum, 42 agencies offer on-site services to provide a one-stop opportunity for parents. Parents come for one service or class and return for others.
There are daily School Readiness activities in the model classroom. Other current classes for kids and their parents include “Great Beginnings,” “Read, Sing & Play” and “Move it Move it”.
Family Fundamentals has a model classroom, children’s Watermelon Room, computer access and adult classrooms/meeting rooms. Partners provide evaluations, counseling, casework and many other services.
Family Fundamentals is all about literacy. Children took home 3,359 books last year!
United Way of Central Florida Success By 6 is dedicated to creating a community where all children, by the age of 6, have the mental, physical, social and emotional foundation needed to grow into healthy, productive members of the community. Success By 6 is a community-wide children’s initiative, founded in 1995 by Carol Jenkins Barnett of Publix Super Markets Charities and spearheaded by United Way of Central Florida. Publix Super Markets Charities continues to provide major support for all the Success By 6 initiatives.
