2024-2025 Annual Celebration
On May 13, 2025, United Way of Central Florida hosted its much-anticipated Annual Celebration luncheon at the stunning Bonnet Springs Park Event Center. The gathering was a powerful reflection on the past year’s accomplishments, featuring updates on United Way’s support for ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) families, inspiring speeches from local leaders, and the recognition of outstanding community volunteers who have made a lasting impact.
Board Chair and State Attorney Brian Haas provided a compelling recap of United Way’s 2024 accomplishments, showcasing the strides made in education, financial stability, and health initiatives across the region. His presentation highlighted the dedication of volunteers, donors, and partners who helped drive meaningful change throughout Central Florida.
One of the most anticipated moments of the afternoon was the award presentation, honoring individuals whose contributions have shaped and strengthened the community. This year’s honorees included:
- Citizen of the Year: Greg Littleton – Celebrated for over a decade of leadership and passionate support for United Way’s mission.
- George W. Jenkins Outstanding Volunteer: Michael Tamney – Recognized for more than 20 years of dedicated service, including leadership on the board of directors and commitment to the Community Investment process.
- Carol Jenkins Barnett Child Advocacy Award: Cheryl Kelly – Honored for her legacy of championing early childhood education through her work with the Early Learning Coalition and other key initiatives.
- Difference-Maker Award: Kaleigh Avian – Acknowledged for her dynamic leadership and volunteer spirit through roles in EMERGE, the Junior League of Greater Lakeland, and United Way’s Young Leaders Society.
- Philanthropists of the Year: Em & Dr. Glen Barden – Recognized for their lifelong dedication to service and generosity, from providing critical medical care in disaster-stricken regions to supporting local initiatives through United Way of Central Florida and Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine.
As the event came to a close, incoming Board Chair Jonathan Crain offered a look ahead, sharing exciting plans for the future and reinforcing United Way’s commitment to unlocking potential in every corner of the community.
