Financial Stability Initiative

Saving Families Money in Polk, Hardee & Highlands Counties

UWCF’s Financial Stability Initiative helps families to find and maintain financial stability.

Help us to break the cycle of poverty.

Families who receive UWCF funded services improve credit scores (which helps them to qualify for jobs, housing and lower interest rates on car and home loans), reduce debt, increase emergency savings and earned job credentials that increase family income.

11,823

individuals accessed financial stability services.

51%

of financial class participants earned job credentials that increased family income.

Free Tax Preparation

Let us help you maximize your refund. If your family income is less than $75,000, you are eligible to have your taxes prepared for free!

Types of Financial Stability services we fund:

  • Money coaches
  • Financial classes
  • Free tax preparation

How we hold these services accountable:

  • Families/individuals with incomes up to 200% of the federal poverty level ($60,000 for a family of four) who receive UWCF funded financial services will improve financial stability by achieving the asset of saving $300+, improving credit scores, earning a job credential that can improve family income and/or increasing family income
  • Families with up to 200% of poverty level who receive UWCF free tax preparation will increase financial stability by splitting their refund so that at least $300 is deposited in a savings account; all clients are referred to additional financial stability services

Partner agencies with funded services include:

  • Bartow Community Service Center
  • Frostproof Care Center
  • Hands of Hope America
  • Heart for Winter Haven
  • Mulberry Community Service Center
  • Ridge Area Arc
  • Talbot House Ministries
  • The Salvation Army Serving West Polk
  • Women’s Care Center of Bartow
  • Women’s Resource Center
